NO to Government-Funded Displacement at Brookland Manor! Sign & Share Petition
By: Yasmina Mrabet, housing organizer
The Brookland Manor/Brentwood Village Residents Association calls for all those in solidarity with D.C. tenants fighting to protect and preserve affordable housing to say NO to Government-funded displacement, recently initiated by Mayor Muriel Bowser, with City Council set to vote on legislation on December 18.
Mid-City Financial, the developer set to receive millions of dollars in public financing to push long-time working class residents from the Saratoga / Brentwood area of D.C. continues to make false promises to tenants, according to tenants on the ground, this includes $40 gift cards, and other incentives to convince residents to express support for the redevelopment, and to convince them that the redevelopment will be inclusive.
The numbers however, are clear: Mid-City plans to reduce affordable housing, and effectively eliminate all large family sized units from the Brookland Manor property. Sign the petition in Solidarity with the Brookland Manor/Brentwood Village Residents Association, including its leadership and membership, which represents the interests of the vast majority of tenants in the community.
